Coastal Chic
Coastal design is about creating a calm, relaxing environment with natural materials. This scheme favours a lighter colour palette where white is key, with accent colours in oatmeal, blue and grey. Below, we have teamed our Ticking Stripe 1 Coast, Mist, Oatmeal and Cobalt alongside The Little Greene Paint Company’s Smalt (255) – a gorgeous classic blue that brings character and depth of colour. This rich blue paint is easy to live with and will always please as it relates to other colours and accessories. For a softer look, try a muted shade of blue paint like Pale Wedgwood (249) or Bone China Blue – Faint (325).
According to Livingetc, texture is also important in coastal interiors! To achieve this, we have teamed our ticking stripes with striped, checked and plain fabrics from our Coast collection.
For the ultimate beach vibe, Bert & May Coarse Terrazzo floor tiles provide the most elegant design that boasts bright and beautiful pops of blue to create the effect of the sparkling sea washing over cream-coloured sand on a Mediterranean beach.
Bold Brights
Bold and bright colours can often feel daunting to many people, but they are a must if you want to integrate colour to add impact and showcase personality! Colour-blocking walls with contrasting accents are a great way to create an impactful statement – just look at our Ticking Stripe 1 Black fabric against The Little Greene Paint Company’s Heat (24) pictured below. This strong and contemporary burnt orange adds vibrancy to this scheme. Not feeling so brave, opt for a deep indigo paint like Dock Blue (252) with ticking stripes in Ticking Stripe 1 Indigo and Brown fabrics.
Rustic Decor
The beauty of rustic interior design is that it has been around for centuries, never goes out of fashion and can be adapted to any living space. It is about creating a welcoming environment using soft colours, natural materials and cosy textures.
When choosing fabrics for curtains, upholstered sofas, blinds and cushions, our rustic flax ground tickings, pictured here in Ivory, Petrol Blue, Claret, Storm, and Spruce are great options for bringing personality to any room. For the ultimate hideaway, consider selecting paints in earth tones such as Edward Bulmer Drab Green, Pale Smoke Grey and French Grey, and blankets and throws in the same hues. Flooring can also play a huge role in setting the tone of rustic charm. If you’re looking for an elegant carpet or stair runner with a beautiful texture, try this Plaid Natural Calico from Crucial Trading.
Summer Brights
Nothing says summer more than our new bright ticking stripe fabrics. Designed to naturally work together for a vibrant, eclectic mix or alone for a bold and unique statement piece, these bold stripes instantly make a room feel cheerful and energised. Matching fabric and paint colours are a great way to tie a room together. For a seamless and cohesive look, consider Earthborn Bobble Hat paint alongside our Ticking Stripe 1 Peacock or Little Greene Leather (191) with Ticking Stripe 1 Cerise. Alternatively, if you’re calling for a more daring interior, introduce richer accent paint colours like Little Greene Atomic Red (190) and Earthborn Flower Pot.
All Time Classics
Classics are classics for a reason. This ever-so-versatile colour palette lends a timeless, sophisticated and curated look, yet it can also have a subtly modern feel when teamed with more contemporary pieces.
A wonderful way to add energy and personality to a scheme is with curtains or upholstery in a rich-toned ticking like our Ticking Stripe 1 Peony, Dark Navy and Britannia fabrics. Little Greene James (108) is a fantastic soothing powder blue to complement these stripes – it exhibits a light, airy and welcoming atmosphere. You might prefer Deep Space Blue (207) for something more impactful.
To avoid it from feeling too patriotic, consider adding warmer-toned furnishings like our Haverford Stripe Peony Stair Runner and Ticking Stripe 1 Rustic Ivory Fabric, along with this Harvey Maria White Oak Parquet Flooring. This moodboard features some Ian Mankin striped ticking fabrics that have been around since 1983, making them some of our most enduring fabrics to date.
Matching wallpaper and fabric collections can sometimes feel overwhelming to some; however, if you want to make a real design statement, we have a range of ticking stripe wallpapers that work seamlessly alongside our natural fabrics.
We hope you have fun introducing tickings into your home and that you enjoy finding complementary paints to make them pop. Don’t forget you can order striped ticking fabric swatches online and pin them up alongside paint colour charts to find the perfect pairing for your home.
