Bring Festive Charm with a Handmade Christmas Tree Decoration
These magical 3D Christmas trees can be sewn by hand or by sewing machine. Place them as fabric centrepieces for decoration on the mantelpiece, dinner table or on your Christmas tree to spark conversation.
Follow this step-by-step guide to make your own:
1. Following a Christmas tree template, draw around the tree template on the wrong side of the fabric. Cut two tree templates in two different fabrics to allow for a range of colours – making sure that you are not creating too much wastage.
2. Interface the cut-outs to ensure that the fabric does not fray. Interfacing can be purchased at a little cost from any craft or fabric shop.
3. Match the two alternate materials to each other and place the face sides together and sew around the edges, leaving the bottom of the tree unsewn ready for the eco-friendly stuffing.
4. Once the edges are sewn, place the pair of Christmas trees on top of each other and insert your favourite festive ribbon. Then sew a line down the middle, leaving 1cm at the bottom to allow the bottom edge to be folded inwards.
5. Next, fill the Christmas tree to the brim with eco-friendly stuffing, leftover fabric scraps or yarn to make your handmade creation complete. If you want to add that extra bit of festive magic to your home, why not include Christmas scents in your stuffing such as cinnamon, roasting chestnuts or gingerbread while you’re in the spirit.
6. Seal the eco-friendly stuffing into the tree with a few stitches.
7. Your 3D Christmas tree ornament is now ready to be placed in situ.
